What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive therapy, helps with thinking processes such as unwanted thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs (called cognitive processes)

Behavioural therapy, focuses on behaviour in response to those thoughts

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, CBT is based on the belief that most unhealthy ways of thinking and behaving are learned over a period of time. Using a set of structured techniques, our CBT therapist aims to identify how you are thinking and how this can cause problematic feelings and behaviour. You will then learn to change this way of thinking.

Cognitive techniques (such as challenging negative thoughts) and behavioural techniques (such as exposure therapy that gradually desensitises you to your phobia and relaxation techniques) are used to relieve symptoms of anxiety and depression by changing your thoughts, beliefs and behaviour.
